Non-System Gravity Points

The points represent utilities that are not owned by the city, but still influence our sewer system. The assets in this layer are privately owned or owned by other municipalities. The point types that are in this layer are inspection boxes, manholes, cleanouts and other private utilities. This layer is updated on an as-needed basis.

Non-System Gravity Lines

This line layer represents utility pipes that are not owned by the city, but still influence our sewer system. The assets in this layer are privately owned or owned by other municipalities. The layer is updated on an as-needed basis.

Utility Easement

This line layer shows the location of utility easements within the city. It will be updated on a regular basis to account for all the easements in the city. Within the layer there area links that will link to an image catalog of easements. The data is updated on a regular as more easements are found or created.

Casing

This line layer shows the locations of protective pipe casings throughout the city. These pipes protect water or sewer lines that may pass under a canal or railroads. Data is created from digitization of as-builts, approved plans, and field notes/drawings. Data is updated by Public Utilities GIS personnel as it becomes available.

Pro Rata Projects

This area layer shows the location of all the current Pro Rata areas throughout the city. New projects are added as the information becomes available and is kept updated as it plays an integral part in the utility activation process. The information regarding the area is provided by the Pro Rata engineer.

Unserved Water Area

This area layer represents the locations throughout the City of Chesapeake that are not served by the city water system. Service could reach them if extended, but public utilities are not currently available to them. Data is updated by Public Utilities GIS personnel as it becomes available. Data is typically updated on a yearly or as needed basis.

Service could reach them if extended, but public utilities are not currently available to them. Data is updated by Public Utilities GIS personnel as it becomes available. Data is typically updated on a yearly or as needed basis.

Intersection Drawings

This layer represents current water distribution layouts for location and design for multiple intersections throughout the City of Chesapeake. The intersection number is a unique number used for locating water distribution features owned by the City of Chesapeake. Each of the areas have a link to an intersection drawing. These drawings are historical documents that assist in utility location. Data is updated by Public Utilities GIS personnel as it becomes available.
